A STORY ABOUT SURVIVING THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE

Diane R. Isaacs, Ph.D.

with illustrations by James Meredith

ANIMALS ARE SPECIAL…………….

Many in our society own dogs, cats, birds, horses, and a variety of animals. Why do we buy these animals?

I specifically would like to address the comfort and company and pleasure that dogs can provide.

In my book, "Molly & Monet," two lovable dogs have been a voice to create a wonderful book about loss.  Molly & Monet were comforting, company, and emotional support during a tumultuous time in the lives of their owners.

Our dogs and cats, ask for very little.  They want water and food, and a nice place to sleep, and they want our love.

In exchange, our pets can provide us with stimulation, company, and take away our loneliness.  They provide us with love and companionship.  Studies have shown that owning a pet decreases our stress levels, and can increase longevity.

Dogs also are protective, and can reassure those that are alone and live by themselves.  Many single men and women have pets for a fuller life.  Many elderly individuals also receive unconditional love and thereby, live more productive and longer lives.  Sometimes, an elderly person lives for the dog or cat that they have in their life, as others might be unavailable to manage the kind of love a pet can bring.  Many hospitals and rest homes have a visiting pet day, as there is something spontaneous about a dog coming to visit, that provides, warmth, and consolation without asking anything in return.

Molly & Monet in their book is a true accounting of what happened between two people.  Two dogs actually grieved the ones they lost.  They acted out, had to adjust to new people and new living conditions, and yes even new friends.  Molly & Monet show the world through their eyes, that people can survive loss, and learn to begin again with new beginnings.

Molly & Monet are truly very special…
